The Mordaunt Short Avant
Architect In-wall speaker line-up delivers first-rate stereo and multi-channel
performance, regardless of the size and shape of the listening room. As the name
suggests these innovative in-wall speakers incorporate Mordaunt-Short's
critically acclaimed Avant technologies. These include latest generation CPC
(Continuous Profile Cone) mid/bass drivers, either a brand new 6.5" design
or the company's renowned 5" unit. CPC's clean lines are fundamental to its
superior audio reproduction. The uninterrupted aluminum surface ensures
excellent rigidity and therefore minimal distortion. The addition of radial
ribbing on the edge of the cone further strengthens the driver, resulting in
greater control at the frequency extremes.
The cone edge is coupled via
Mordaunt-Short's proprietary V-Form technology. This employs an innovative
mechanical connection, which increases radiating area and aids the structural
rigidity of the assembly. The surround itself varies in thickness, aiding
accurate pistonic operation and allows the dish to operate incredibly freely,
delivering huge benefits in timing performance. An aerospace-grade, visco-elastic
coupling between cone and voice coil completes the drivers. The driver is then
mounted on a vented, profiled steel chassis. The mid/bass drivers are
complemented by Mordaunt-Short's respected 1" aluminum dome tweeter.
Avant architect also employs a
patent pending wall mounting system. Not only does this ensure amazingly easy
and rapid installation, but also delivers a rigid connection between the wall
and the speaker. Creating such an inert foundation means distortion is kept to
an absolute minimum. This is enhanced by the use of a highly absorbent isolation
material between the speaker assembly and wall, reducing any adverse sonic
effects the wall might induce. The result is a fully isolated mounting.
What's more, the innovative
design guarantees the connection is consistent, fitting flawlessly to any
material. This ensures Avant architect's exceptional sound remains the same
wherever it is situated, a fact enhanced by the controlled-volume back box. The
proprietary wall mounting system accommodates walls whose depth is between 9mm
and 32mm. Just as importantly Avant architect loudspeakers blend seamlessly into
any environment, thanks to a discrete frame and paintable grille. It has been
developed to ensure minimal disruption to existing decor.
The AW161 in-wall offers distinguished sonic
performance which belies the speaker’s compact proportions.
The magnetically shielded model incorporates
a CPCâ„¢ mid/bass driver, measuring 16.5cm. This larger than standard driver
means more power at lower frequencies, thanks to a bigger radiating area,
and enhanced bass efficiency.
The AW161 also benefits from high-end crossover components.
SmartLocâ„¢ is unique to Avant architectâ„¢. This
patent-pending clamping system enables quick and easy mounting with minimal
disruption to existing décor.
The entire in-wall range can be accommodated in
virtually all partition walls without the need for fitting accessories or a
separate mounting kit.
The in-ceiling range is equally versatile. For ultimate flexibility models can
be fitted to any ceiling with a thickness range between 7mm – 30mm (0.8"
x 1.2")
A mechanical isolation system prevents re-radiation from the mounting wall –
so often a problem with in-wall designs – allowing the drivers to operate to
their full potential whatever their situation.
To ensure Avant architectâ„¢ is equally at
home in any setting, they feature Mordaunt-Short’s Décormatch™ which
allows the mounting bezel and grille to be spray-painted. Protective
templates are supplied to prevent overspray and step-by-step instructions
mean customisation is extremely straight-forward.

technology offer truly predictable driver performance by ensuring controlled
pistonic movement at low frequencies and minimal break-up at higher frequencies.

Give excellent dynamics and astonishing detail over a wide frequency range. A
high temperature voice coil with liquid cooling and damping guarantees the
perfect performance.
Optimised tweeter flare
Smooth and wide dispersion characteristics are essential in permanently
installed speakers. Avant architect’s™ tweeter flare is designed to give an
even response across all frequencies.
Neodymium and premium Y30 magnets
High flux density, self shielding neodymium magnet assemblies offer improved
sensitivity and better dynamics than conventional tweeter magnets. Powerful Y30
magnets further enhance the Avant architect’s woofer.

A quick-release terminal design facilitates swift installation and enables
single action release whilst allowing maximum wiring permutations.
Audiophile grade crossover featuring AVH
The AVHâ„¢ (Adjustable Vertical Horizontal) switching system enables vertical or
