All things considered, an impressive set of speakers

5 BOSTON ACOUSTICS A-Series 7.2.4 Ultimate Home Theater Speaker Package
Reviewer: from Indiana
This review is from the perspective of a 34 year old father with a ~2 year old and a 4 year old who fears for his speakers being damaged by toddler "shenanigans", and is average to above average knowledgeable with home theater sound. I have been looking to buy a 7.2.4 system for about a year. My budget was $4,000 - $8,000 for just the speakers. I did my research and listened to as many speakers as I could (Polk, KEF, Klipsch and Boston). For a while I was settled on getting a set of klipsch (280f tower, 450c, RP250s, 115SW,and hights). I planed on waiting for a sale and grabbing them then. However, the more I revisited and listened to them compared to these Boston speakers, the more I found that the price difference for my personal situation was not justified. Now don't get me wrong, I am not suggesting that these speakers sounded as good as some of the 6-8k systems I listened to. They did however sound close enough that it fulfilled my needs. Especially when properly set up.

I have these speakers connected to a X4300H receiver, 14 gauge wire, wall mounted and ceiling mounted. They are in a 20 by 30 foot room with 8 foot callings. The previous set up in this room was concrete floor with two Polk rt 12s in a 2.1 set up. The Boston speakers sounded less balanced then the Polks when I got them, however the room is slowly being acoustically treated and is now carpeted, and I find the more I do the more balanced these speakers become. They still do tend to sound more treble-heavy then previous speakers I have owned. These Bostons easily fill the room with sound. The two subs are responsive slightly punchy, and shake the house.

Overall, considering the price, and my needs these speakers meet my expectations, and I am happy that I held off on buying a more expensive system. Maybe when I don't have to worry about toddlers pushing over my towers I will invest in a more expensive system. But for now these speakers will work for the next 5-10 years.
