Key design enhancements improve sound

While cosmetically familiar, the TX-NR696 has significant upgrades inside that control noise, boost driving power, and improve S/N performance. A new HDMI® board features larger, stronger, better-finished grounds and shortened signal-paths for clean and accurate A/V signals. New SoC processor has its own board remote from audio signal-paths to reduce noise. Key aspects of the power-supply line have been strengthened and upgraded in pursuit of driving power, which you can hear in the blistering attack speed and force of the bass, and in the clearer separation and localization of instruments across a large and spacious soundstage.

AccuEQ Room Acoustic Calibration with AccuReflex^™

AccuEQ creates a harmonious sound-field in your room. It detects speaker presence, size, impedance, and distance from a measurement position, and sets sound-pressure levels. It then selects the subwoofer crossover and EQ's all speakers, including the sub. AccuReflex optimizes 3D audio reproduction through Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers. It resolves phase-shift arising from path differences between directional and non-directional sounds. Enjoy a cohesive 3D sound-field with vertical movement and overhead dimensionality.

Zone 2 outputs share audio flexibly

Zone 2 outputs enable 7-ch surround in Main plus stereo speakers in Zone 2. Distribute different analog, NET, Bluetooth®, SPDIF, and HDMI audio sources in either or both zones at the same time (there's a Zone 2 DAC) just by switching to a 5.1-ch + Zone 2 layout. Output from Zone 2 and Zone 2 line-out is enabled.

Quad-core SoC supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi^®

A quad-core SoC (System on a Chip) has power to perform multiple processing tasks at once. It evolves network functions and supports the latest high-speed 802.11ac (2x2 MIMO) specification while compatible with 802.11b/g/n dual-band routers.

Clearer dialog at the touch of a button

Connect an audio system via analog RCA input and the AVR's Zone 2/Zone B line-out. With Zone 2, you can play the same or different analog/digital sources (including SPDIF and HDMI) in either or both rooms at the same time. Zone B is ideal for connecting a compatible transmitter so you can listen to any source-including the TV-through wireless headphones, perfect for midnight movies and TV.

Relax with Stereo Assign Mode

Onkyo Factory Refurbished

Buying a Onkyo Factory Refurbished product is a great way to get "as-new" products at a considerable savings. Every product has been thoroughly tested, repaired (if necessary), cleaned and otherwise renewed to original condition. Next it’s repackaged with accessories included. When you consider that a factory-renewed Onkyo product undergoes such close scrutiny for defects and workmanship, you might actually be buying something that is in many ways better than new. And for your piece of mind and protection, your purchase is covered by a full 1 year parts and labor warranty valid at any authorized Onkyo repair center (you can look-up locations online here or call 201-785-2600)

Onkyo, like all electronics manufactures, receives products returned for various reasons. In 2011 consumers returned 17 billion dollars in electronics globally, of which less than 5% were found to be defective! Once a product has been opened it must be resold as refurbished and can’t be resold as new again. The history and reason why a product was returned is not provided to us, thus we can’t provide any additional details regarding its past. All products are processed by Onkyo certified technicians, where they are fully tested, repaired (only if necessary), and retested again to ensure the highest quality control. Each unit must pass a complete battery of test before it can be titled a "Onkyo Factory Refurbished" product.

Most units are Cosmetically in Mint Condition (graded a 9 or higher on a scale of 1-10). Very minor signs of wear (light surface scuffs or minor scratches) may be present, although most units show little or no signs of any usage. We DO NOT sell products that are cosmetically damaged (cracked displays, broken knobs, heavy scratches, or physically abused) unless noted in the description. Unfortunately, we can’t provide actual photos of each unit or pick the best one for anyone, as they are all randomly chosen from our factory sealed boxes.
