The RZ Series

Our premium RZ Our premium RZ Series A/V receivers deliver a significant boost to the dynamism, detail, and accuracy of music and movie soundtracks for a listening experience that packs deep emotional impact. The TX-RZ820 features quality components, such as large custom capacitors, to provide high instantaneous current for fast transients and wideband frequency response down to 5 Hz. Discrete non-phase-shift amp circuits clearly focus the audio image and cut distortion even at floor-shaking volumes.

THX® Certified Select Reference Sound

THX Certified Select ™guarantees the same high-volume sound you experience at a commercial theater in your home. To gain certification, amplifiers must pass the industry's most severe bench-tests covering every aspect of audio performance. THX Certified Select components are ideally suited to rooms where the screen-to-seat viewing distance is approximately 3 meters (10 ft.), and the room volume is approximately 57 cubic meters (2,000 cubic feet).

Upmixing Solutions for Legacy Soundtracks

DTS Neural:X™ identifies spatial effects in multichannel soundtracks and upmixes for 3D playback through object-audio-ready speaker systems. Dolby Surround also upmixes legacy sound formats so you can experience multidimensional playback of legacy sound formats in a Dolby Atmos environment.

Multi-Zone Audio and Video

Pre-outs for Zone 3 as well as Powered Zone 2A/B capability opens up distributed audio options throughout the home backed by dedicated Zone 2 and Zone 3 DACs.

Unleash Dolby Atmos® or DTS:X Home Theater

Object-based soundtracks allow independently mixed sound to play through any speaker in your system, moving above and around you with breathtaking realism. The TX-RZ820 reproduces 5.2.2-channel Dolby Atmos or DTS:X formats, with AccuReflex correcting the phase of direct and indirect sounds for cohesive audio imaging with Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers.

Stream Anything with DTS Play-Fi®*

DTS Play-Fi® is a wireless protocol that works with any audio app on mobiles and PC. Flick whatever's playing to the receiver, even different sources to different components at the same time.

Front HDMI terminal is ideal for video camera connection, while the Zone 2 output distributes home theater video to a display in a second room.

Wi-Fi®, AirPlay, Spotify®, Bluetooth®

Selectable 5 GHz/2.4 GHz Wi-Fi® assures stable connectivity so you can enjoy smooth streaming over AirPlay, the Spotify app, and the local network. Bluetooth wireless technology also provides quick and simple wireless streaming from your choice of music application.

Internet Radio, Streaming Services, and FM/AM Radio

TIDAL, Deezer, Pandora®, and TuneIn are on board to make selecting from a massive range of music and radio programs using Onkyo Controller very simple.

FireConnect Wireless Multi-room Audio

FireConnect™ mirrors network audio and external analog sources connected to a master component, from streaming services to vinyl records, on FireConnect™-compatible speakers in other rooms. Music selection, speaker grouping, and playback management across the home are built into Onkyo Controller app for iOS and Android™.

Note: FireConnect™ is enabled with a firmware update. Multi-room audio enabled by this technology requires an optional Onkyo wireless speaker. Onkyo cannot guarantee the compatibility of its A/V receivers with other devices featuring FireConnect. Sharing audio from external inputs depends on the model and is enabled via firmware update. Sampling rates of 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz are supported. FireConnect™ is a technology developed by Blackfire Research Corp., USA. Please consult the Onkyo website for further announcements regarding these technologies.

Wide Connectivity for Custom Setups

With 7.2-channel pre-outs, 12 V trigger, IR input, and optional rack-mount kit, the TX-RZ820 easily integrates other components (such as outboard amps) to create a full wired multi-room setup thanks to Powered Zone 2A/2B and Zone 2/3 Pre-/Line Outputs governed by a Whole Home Audio Mode and supported within Onkyo Controller. RS-232 and IP Control via LAN are ready for home automation systems.

Noiseless Audio Processing

Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry is a mouthful, so we call it VLSC. This circuitry virtually removes digital pulse noise for a smooth analog signal. RZ820 focuses VLSC on the front left and right channels.

Data is converted between sampling points and these points are joined with analog vectors in real time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result is a virtually noiseless, smooth, analog signal based on the digital source. It brings out even the most subtle of nuances in audio sources.

Onkyo Factory Refurbished

Buying a Onkyo Factory Refurbished product is a great way to get "as-new" products at a considerable savings. Every product has been thoroughly tested, repaired (if necessary), cleaned and otherwise renewed to original condition. Next it’s repackaged in a new box with all original accessories included. When you consider that a factory-renewed Onkyo product undergoes such close scrutiny for defects and workmanship, you might actually be buying something that is in many ways better than new. And for your piece of mind and protection, your purchase is covered by a full 1 year parts and labor warranty valid at any authorized Onkyo repair center (you can look-up locations online here or call 201-785-2600)

Onkyo, like all electronics manufactures, receives products returned for various reasons. In 2011 consumers returned 17 billion dollars in electronics globally, of which less than 5% were found to be defective! Once a product has been opened it must be resold as refurbished and can’t be resold as new again. The history and reason why a product was returned is not provided to us, thus we can’t provide any additional details regarding its past. All products are processed by Onkyo certified technicians, where they are fully tested, repaired (only if necessary), and retested again to ensure the highest quality control. Each unit must pass a complete battery of test before it can be titled a "Onkyo Factory Refurbished" product.

Most units are Cosmetically in Mint Condition (graded a 9 or higher on a scale of 1-10). Very minor signs of wear (light surface scuffs or minor scratches) may be present, although most units show little or no signs of any usage. We DO NOT sell products that are cosmetically damaged (cracked displays, broken knobs, heavy scratches, or physically abused) unless noted in the description. Unfortunately, we can’t provide actual photos of each unit or pick the best one for anyone, as they are all randomly chosen from our factory sealed boxes.

Great receiver, great price, great customer service

5 ONKYO TX-RZ820 7.2-Ch x 130 Watts THX Networking A/V Receiver
Reviewer: from Roseville, CA
This receiver is great. I recently went full 4K (setup is below) and this deal was one I could not pass up. Having bought three receivers from accessories4less in the past already I came back to buy my forth one. When you receive 3 perfectly working refurbished receivers from a site, you tend to keep coming back.

The AccuEQ setup my speakers at the exact settings as the Audyssey XT did on my previous Marantz receiver. Same crossovers, same distances (within 1 inch!). So don't worry about the negative things said about AccuEQ. Use a tripod or and set the mic in the center sitting position at ear height, if you don't your results will vary. I initially set the mic on boxes but the sound bounces off the boxes and it will mess with your results. This receiver makes my HSU VTF15 sub-woofer sound so much smoother than the Marantz did. The Marantz was pretty harsh in comparison to the RZ820. My Infinity Beta 5.1 setup sounds more alive than ever. The system as a whole has a new life with clarity and separation. All the internal apps have worked as advertised (make sure you get the latest firmware before you do anything with this receiver). The menu system is extremely simplistic as there are only HDMI settings and audio settings, this has zero video adjustments which is great because you shouldn't be adjusting picture settings through a receiver anyway. The remote is bare-bones but does everything you would need it to. I have a Logitech Harmony Elite so I won't be using the included remote anyway. The receiver is pretty big so make sure you measure where it will be sitting before you buy it.
Now to my HDMI cable issue.
My setup: LG OLED65C8PUA, Onkyo RZ820, Apple TV 4K, LG UP970 Blu Ray player, Nvidia Shield 2017, PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, and an Audio-technica AT LP120. I went through three sets of different cables for all of my devices before finding the right cable on the 4th try. I bought AudioQuest Sky cables from Best Buy that were $99 a piece, Monoprice cables, and $25 cables from Fry’s Electronics. All the cables claimed to work with 4K UHD content, HDR content, were supposedly certified, were supposedly 18Gbps, and were supposedly HDMI 2.0. That is simply not the case. If you plug them directly into your 4K TV from your 4K component you will probably be okay. If you plug them into the first 2 or 3 ports of your 4K receiver from your 4K component you will probably be okay. If you use them for 1080p you will likely be okay. If you have more than three 4K, HDR, or Dolby Vision devices and have to use HDMI port 4 or higher on your receiver, you will likely be out of luck.

On the recommendation from accessories4less support, I bought Belkin 4K 48Gbps cables from the Apple Store (yeah, I was thinking it would not work either, but I was desperate). When I got the Belkin cables home and tried them with my devices on every port of this receiver they DID NOT cut out. I was in shock.

In addition, the Apple TV 4K has a "check cable" feature, the Belkin Ultra High Speed 4K HDMI cables have been the ONLY cables to pass that test on every HDMI port on this receiver. Every other cable failed the test no matter what port they were plugged into. This has been a full week of constant testing, trial and error, and contacting support from a reseller for the first time in my life. Take my advice, if you are going 4K with this receiver, buy Belkin Ultra High Speed 4K HDMI Cables from the Apple Store as recommended by the splendid support team at accessories4less. When it’s time to upgrade again the receiver will be coming from accessories4less once again! Thanks for the deal and most of all the support and passing along the knowledge of how bad MOST HDMI cables really are.
